What is Co-Housing?

Co-Housing is the term used for a residential community planned from the outset to include strong supportive bonds between the residents.

Each household has a self-contained private home but residents join in the responsibility of managing their community; there are communal spaces inside and outside, some shared resources and the opportunity to take part in or organise activities, and to cook and eat together.

The projects aimed at older residents try to combat the isolation and loneliness often experienced as people become older but still would like to remain in their own homes.
